This is the New School Mindset

You Are Never A Loan

The reason to use Thrivent Student Resources if you're looking into financing college is simple: we've changed student lending to help you, not handcuff you. But before you can change how things are done, you need to know what you're doing.

So we created a platform full of resources and tools to help you understand as much as possible in order to make wise money decisions when it comes to your college experience.

Thankfully, we're backed by Thrivent Financial, a mission-driven membership-owned financial services organization that helps members be wise with money and make financial decisions that reflect their values. With more than $116 billion in assets under management/advisement as of 12/31/16, Thrivent's 100+ years of strong, stable financial performance enables us to know exactly what it takes to improve the system.

About the New School Mindset

It is time for a new approach to paying for college, which is why we don’t subscribe to the old school mentality of dishing out as much as we can.

New School Lending Principles
  • Borrow as little as possible to pay for school. Not a dollar more, not a penny less.

  • Look at education as an investment & calculate your ROI. Your loan payment should not be more than 10% of your usual income, and you should be able to pay it off in 10 years or less. Don’t let the cost of college derail future dreams.

  • You are not a loan. You are more than a number to us. We lend through credit unions and other mission aligned financial institutions. We are a not-for-profit organization.

  • Have a plan of action to fund your education. We can help you determine what you need and track your progress.

  • You shouldn't leave free money on the table. We have the tools to help you apply for scholarships early and often!

Who We Are

Owned by membership-owned Thrivent Financial, we bring our not-for-profit approach to everything we do. We put people before profits in every instance. It’s the philosophy and the mission we’ve used for over 100 years and one that’s backed by over $116 billion in managed assets of people who trust and believe in our way of doing things.

We help our members learn to be wise with their money, especially at the beginning of college. We believe when we’re more financially secure, we’re free to live generously and empower our community to thrive.

We’re also rethinking the way student lending happens, which includes partnerships with educational institutions to arm both administrators and students with tools to plan for college. Here’s how we’re doing it:
